In 1880, the area that now houses Tavern on the Green began as a sheepfold for the 700 sheep that enjoyed grazing in Central Park’s sheep meadow. By 1934, Robert Moses, an urban planner for New York City, saw the potential that this space had and transformed it into a restaurant.
